The time evolution of the effective probability distribution width on the surface is calculated and analyzed within an anomalous diffusion framework. The asymptotic behavior for large times shows a sub-diffusive regime for the effective surface diffusion but, depending on the observed range of time, other regimes may be obtained. Montecarlo simulations show excellent agreement with analytical results. As an important byproduct of the indicated approach, we present the evaluation of the time for the first visit to the surface.

A Kinetic Investigation of a Carrier-Mediated Transport through a Bulk Liquid Membrane
The kinetics of the potassium thiocyanate transport mediated by dicyclohexyl-18-crown-6 (L) through a bulk liquid membrane is studied experimentally and theoretically. The proposed model is based on the assumption of a pure diffusion of the complex salt [K·L]+SCN¯ through the liquid membrane stagnant films at the interfaces. It illustrates the ...
متن کاملA new approach to the problem of bulk-mediated surface diffusion.
This paper is devoted to bulk-mediated surface diffusion of a particle which can diffuse both on a flat surface and in the bulk layer above the surface. It is assumed that the particle is on the surface initially (at t = 0) and at time t, while in between it may escape from the surface and come back any number of times. We propose a new approach to the problem, which reduces its solution to tha...
متن کاملStability analysis and simulations of coupled bulk-surface reaction–diffusion systems
In this article, we formulate new models for coupled systems of bulk-surface reaction-diffusion equations on stationary volumes. The bulk reaction-diffusion equations are coupled to the surface reaction-diffusion equations through linear Robin-type boundary conditions. We then state and prove the necessary conditions for diffusion-driven instability for the coupled system. Owing to the nature o...
متن کاملStrange kinetics of bulk-mediated diffusion on lipid bilayers.
Diffusion at solid-liquid interfaces is crucial in many technological and biophysical processes. Although its behavior seems to be deceivingly simple, recent studies showing passive superdiffusive transport suggest that diffusion on surfaces may hide rich complexities. In particular, bulk-mediated diffusion occurs when molecules are transiently released from the surface to perform three-dimensi...
متن کاملDiffusion coefficients of fluctuations in semi-infinite ferromagnets
2014 The nearest-neighbour Ising model of a semi-infinite ferromagnet in which nearsurface couplings may differ from their bulk values is considered. In the critical region near secondorder phase transitions the decay of fluctuations of the magnetization density is described by a diffusion equation with a damping term. Using mean-field theory, the diffusion coefficients of fluctuations in the p...
